In collaboration with the Pasadena Sister Cities Committee the annual Friendship program brings youth from the cities of Pasadena and Mishima, Japan together to share life experiences and develop increased understanding of our two cities and cultures.
On alternating years, several young teens from Mishima, Japan and Pasadena visit each other for a weeklong program highlighted by Dodgers baseball, Universal Studios, the Battleship USS Iowa, the California Science Center and the Space Shuttle Endeavor, Little Tokyo and a farewell party. The Friendship progam is open to young teens who are interested in meeting students from Mishima and who have in interest in Japan and Japanese culture.
Started in 2002, the Friendship Summer Youth Program has hosted young people from Mishima on alternating years and has taken Pasadena area students to Japan for relationship building and cultural education.
